Golf Tournament Planning "Tip of the Day"

GOLF TOURNAMENT PLANNING
"TIP OF THE DAY"

Two Peripheral Events That Can
Add Significant Profits To Your Tournament

Dear Friend in Golf,

Welcome to the Golf Tournament Profits daily blog. If you are an avid golf
tournament planner promoting corporate events, school fundraising, charity golf, corporate golf, seeking golf prizes or just into event management I'm sure will find the information valuable.

Let's get started ...

In February, I got a frantic call from one of our subscribers, basically telling me that he needed additional revenue streams for his golf event in Southern California and ways to set the event apart from the other six community golf events in order to attract larger tournament sponsorship dollars during these difficult economic times.

Jim stated the competition for sponsorship revenue and players was escalating. As we discussed his situation, Jim could not clearly and concisely differentiate his golf event from his competitions to me and admitted his annual event was beginning to stagnate.

I told him he should not panic; I'd take the time to review his situation and try to come up with a significant promotion idea. I could just sense the frustration on the other end of the phone...I knew Jim thought I was just being polite but he went along with it anyway.

Well, here it is - May 2009...and many of our subscribers are getting into high gear as the tournament planning season is a upon us. During the past month, I've spent time on the phone with many of our readers and I must say there are community golf events out there putting up some fantastic bottom line number.

But the one common denominator I'm uncovering is many of the event coordinators are searching for ways to add to the bottom line just like Jim in Southern California by increasing the number of foursomes they can recruit. That is good thought, but I'm finding a trend that most golf tournament directors are missing.

As I suggested to Jim, tournament promoters fail to recognize additional revenue can be created by having others (non-golfers) in the community participate in their golf event.

Are you with me?

One of the easiest ways you can add a BUNDLE to your bottom line is plan and promote pre-tournament peripheral events. Here are a couple of contests you can add to your events line up in time to rev up your 2009 event.

These two event add-ons keep the fun rolling from start to finish. They also allow EVERYONE in the community to participate and offer additional sponsorship revenue opportunities. These event add-ons also work great with a joint venture partner like a radio station to assist the promotion.

First, consider a Putting Event.

Get everyone in community participating with an exciting putting challenge. You'll need to offer a qualifying contest. There are a number of ways, but I like to promote 5 putts for $20 from 50 feet. Sink a putt and the participant goes to the next round. The contest continues until one amateur remains standing and they'll get a chance to win $2,500 by taking one putt from no shorter than 50 feet.

This putting challenge allows juniors, ladies and seniors and other players who don't participate in your tournament to come out and enjoy the fun. Get 100 players, plus a sponsor and you can easily net $2,000 additional profit plus additional free media coverage.

Second, promote a Shootout Event.

Most tournaments use this as a way to get everybody back together to wrap up the tournament, but I've seen this type of event promoted and operated as a separate attraction the week of your main golf event. It is a great way to get additional players involved who for one reason or another can't play in your actual event.

A Shootout Event leaves two amateurs are left standing after a qualifying rounds for a chance to win $100,000 cash by taking one shot each from 165 yards. For more details on how to plan and promote these type of events email me at mamucci@golftp1.com
