Golf Tournament "Tip of the Day"
"How To Explode Your Golf Events
Sponsorships Revenues Through The Roof"
From: Mike Mucci

Dear Friend in Golf,
Before we launch into this Golf Tournament "Tip of the Day", there are a few things I want to point out to you.
Today's tip is a foundation that we all can build on throughout our Golf Tournament Planning "Tip of the Day" blog and a general overview of what you need as a golf tournament planner.
I also want to let you know about a completely FRE^E resource you'll definitely want to add to your golf event planning arsenal. Having said that, let's get at it...Everything we're going to talk about in this report hinges in some way on understanding the power of multiple contacts. They aren't complicated.
In fact, they are very simple... IF you use them correctly.
There are SOME planner doing what I am about to share with you......but VERY FEW are doing it correctly. It was taught to me by one of the very best direct marketers ... Dan Kennedy.
And VERY FEW are really earning any significant income with their golf events.
Let me share this with you. I'll make you a bold promise right now. IF you read this entire article and IF you apply exactly whatI tell you, then I GUARANTEE you will recruit high profile sponsorswho will make a significant impact on your golf events bottom line. You've got my promise on that. It's in writing. Put me to the test on this and see if I'm not 100% correct.
How about that for a challenge? So Mike, what is this *mystery strategy*? Glad you asked. No matter how good your invitation or offer is a single exposure to a given group of prospective sponsors will have MINIMAL effect. But multiple
repeated exposures will have positive effect disproportionate to the number of exposures.
Again, a single exposure will have minimal impact, but repeated exposures will have a positive impact.
Here's an example...
Let's say you are doing a mailing of 500 or more to businesses, organizations and national golf companies who you consider to be *targeted* from a data base provided by your local chamber of commerce.
From a one time mailing you MIGHT pull anywhere from a low of a quarter of one percent to a 1% response. Maybe a total of 1-5 responses.
The variance between the percentages may depend on the effectiveness of your offer / invitation. But if you'll mail to those SAME 500+ prospective sponsors 6-7 times over a three to four month period your overall response might be 3% to as high as 20%. In most cases you will be above 10-12%!!!
A result of 15 to 100 sponsors.
That's about a 12X increase from the single mailing, not just 6X.You see the multiple contacts just don't increase the responseproportionately they increase disproportionately. Is this always true?
No...
Sometimes something else is wrong. The list, the offer, the company or organizations credibility might not be good and nothing can overcome that. However, if everything lines up with the list and offer these numbersshould be ACHIEVABLE. Another way to do this is to use a combination of media at the same time. In our golf tournament
planning eToolkit we call this an "event strategy".
While the prospective sponsor is receiving your offer / invitation to participate in your event they read your press release in the newspaper or local golf publication. During this same period they view a cable television announcement or tune into your local radio weekly golf show...they see a poster at the golf course.
Pretty soon the prospective sponsor feels they know you. There is instant recognition of your golf event and again there will be results developed disproportionately to the amount of exposure. In most cases, tournament planners don't really expect response from these other forms of media which really serve best as reinforcement advertising.
That type of advertising is only being used to earn recognition.
So when the prospective sponsor gets some type of direct contact they mentally say, "oh ya, I know about this event" and therefore, they are much more receptive to your sponsorship offer.
The tournament planner has to carefully restrict the expenditures of this type of reinforcement advertising when directly positioned just for sponsorship acquisition, but there are several low cost things that can be done which include:
1. Uniform tournament image. Colors, tournament name, theme and logo should be in ALL aspects of you event
marketing and presentation.
2. A slogan that makes sense and accurately represents the goals of your event and is easy to remember.
3. Repetitive contacts with fewer prospective sponsors rather than onecontact mailed to a large list.
A plan using this type of reinforcement advertising helps a good sponsorship offer perform.
Remember, 60% of all sales are made after the fifth contact, and only 4% of all sales people and marketers do this, 96% quit after 4 closing attempts.

Golf Tournament "Tip of the Day"
SEVEN (7) SIMPLE MARKETING STRATEGIES THAT
GUARANTEE YOUR NEXT GOLF EVENT WILL SELL OUT!"
From: Mike Mucci
A Driver and a SW North of Conneaut Creek
Friday, 8:47 A.M.
Dear Friend in Golf,
Before we launch into this weeks tournament planning tip, there area few things I want to point out to you.
Today's strategy is a foundation that we will build on throughout our "Tip of the Day" blog and a general overview of what you need as a golf tournament planner.
I also want to let you know about a completely FRE^E resource you'll definitely want to add to your golf event planning arsenal.
Having said that, let's get at it...
Everything we're going to talk about in this strategy hinges in some way on understanding the power of multiple contacts. It is a powerful marketing strategy and not complicated.
In fact, they are very simple and EASY to implement...
...IF you use them correctly.
There are a FEW tournament planners doing what I am about to share with you......but VERY FEW are doing it correctly.
And VERY FEW are really earning any substantial profits fortheir golf events.
Did you know the AVERAGE PROFIT is only $6K for all community golf tournaments. We both know how much work goes into planning and presenting a first class golf event.
If you don't...????
Let me share this with you. I'll make you a bold promise right now. IF you implement this strategy and IF you apply it exactly the way it is presented, then I GUARANTEE you will find ways to fill up your playing field and have folks on a waiting list.
Instead of having 80-100 players you'll be moving up to the 120-144 playing field level and that can make a SIGNIFICANT impact on your golf events bottom line.
More players, more sponsors and the more you can expect from your sponsors in the way of revenue.
You've got my promise on that. It's in writing. Put me to the test on this and see if I'm not 100% correct.
How about that for a challenge?
So Mike, what are these "Seven Marketing Strategies"?
Glad you asked.
To better understand how to recruit a full field of players you need to understand why golfers want to participate in golf outings before you know how to recruit them.
There are a several reasons...
Business owners send foursomes to community golf events for many reasonsand here are just a few:
(1) to reward their employees,
(2) they want to develop more relationships with people in the community and,
(3) sending foursomes to your event is a quiet form of interactive advertising.
On the other hand, other types of players want to participate in your event because they were invited, they want to network. They wish to participate and help out a cause and in a lot of cases, because everyone else is playing and they don't want to be left out.
These reasons may sound elementary to you, but they do provide paths you need to explore as a tournament director to sell out your event.
What are the best ways to skyrocket your playing field and getpeople on a waiting list?
Here are Seven (7) Marketing Techniques To Fill Your Tournament Tee Sheet ...
Of course you have the standard practices of players asking other players to join them, companies invite their vendors, you can advertise to the golf community, send mail pieces, get a story written in your local papers, put up a web site, invite the media to a press release, but to get to the next level be sure to try these:
1. Operate a web site for your golf event. It will need to be updated weekly and as you near your tournament date daily It will require a committeemember or two who have internet savvy. It is getting easier and easier to find these type of people in your community and YOU definitely need to make these type of skilled people part of your tournament committee. They'll need to understand how to operate autoresponders and work with HTML code. Our tournament web site vendor provides templates specifically designed for community and charity golf events. Email me at mamucci@golftp1.com for details.
2. Send a newsletter each month with golf tips complimented with pictures and testimonials from your past event(s). Offer rewards or discounts for early foursome signups and always create urgency with your messages.
In order for this technique to really work you will need to make it a top priority that you collect email addresses and store them in a data base.
3. Also another important part of this strategy is to have your event photographer take at least 2-3 group shots of each foursome, the volunteers, sponsors, and sponsorship banners. These photos and testimonials will be needed to promote your event on the web site each month. You'll want to rotate your pictures monthly to make all your participants feel equal and appreciated.
It is easier than ever to promote with video when you invest in a Flip Camera for about $120 which allows you to shoot your own video, edit and upload on a tournament web site and You Tube. Use the FREE Genie Shopping Tool below (it is a free download) to find the lowest price on the web.
4. Allow other community activities to be advertised on your web site and you'll will receive constant community internet traffic on your golf tournament web site all year round.
5. At the end of each tournament you operate offer an incentive for theplayers you just entertained first chance to come back to next years event.Have your committee ready and able to sign them up before they leave the tournamnet or prior to the awards dinner.
6. And finally your tournament committee must he trained to do the following: Remember email is great, faxes are fine, web sites are a great tools, sending out press releases are important, but most golf committees stop right there.
They actually believe their work is done and golfers are going to start picking up their phones and call in with their foursomes. As you probably know, being a leader, it doesn't ever happen that way.
You see it is the old 20-80 rule, 20% of your committee is doing the 80%of the work and that is most ALWAYS the case.
Tournament directors get tired of delegating and usually when time constraints are approaching *give in* and do the work themselves. Now we've all done that, haven't we?
7. Try this when marketing your next golf tournament in your community to sell out your playing spots. Either on your tournament flyer, brochure or web site (all of them if possible) list the names of your committee members.
Next, have your committee members write down a list of 20 golfers they know, mail a complete overviewof the event to them at least 120 days in advance of your tournament dateand structure a five (5) contact invitation sign-up system with acombination of email, flyers, faxes, word of mouth, but the last contact MUST be a personal phone call.
Space about 14 days between your written contacts and leave time enough for the committee to talk to your potential playing candidates at least twice.
The personal phone call strategy should start approximately 60 days in advance of your event.
Execute the pre-planned five (5) contact system with your tournament committee, and you'll need at least 9 well-connected community leaders to implement this marketing technique and will be pleasantly surprised with the results.
Why the five contact system?
60% of all sales are made after the FIFTH contact in any recruiting process. If you start early with your marketing, recruit the right committeemembers and follow this system you will have an outstanding turn out for you next golf event.
FOCUS on creating urgency with your sign up program. Promote your event all year round and it will become very easy in the future to build your event past the 144 player level if you elect too.
Try these strategies as you plan your next golf event and you will be amazed how easily it is to fill your tournament tee sheet.

Today, I want to talk with you about how you can generate more income even if you have a small playing field. First, what kind of foundation are you going to build for your annual golf event?
Hopefully a STRONG one. One of the most important ways to build a solid foundation for your event is to get as many participants involved in your activities, including players who don't play in your actual event.
A simple way to get more participation -- regardless of your events size -- more effectively is to promote a Golf Skills Challenge. One of the things that I do -- and I'm going to encourage you to do the same -- is to attract players of all skill levels. Yesterday we talked about a putting challenge to attract even more participants.
The Golf Skills Challenge -- here is how it works!
This event tests players abilities in golf's eight major fundamentals:
1. chip shot
2. greenside bunker
3. long drive
4. middle iron tee shot
5. pitch over a hazard
6. putting
7. short iron, and ...
8. trouble shot
The challenge is played on nine holes. Each player gets three shots per skill. The best score of the three shots counts toward the overall total. Players are grouped in divisions. Players register by filling out an entry form and paying a registration fee (typically $20-$30). Tee times accommodate up to eight players and are scheduled in twelve minute intervals from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
It takes approximately two hours to complete the 8-skill circuit. Scoring targets are painted on each green, with points being awarded from 1-6. Mulligans (three extra swings) can be purchased prior to the round and can be used at any point during the competition.
This type of golf challenge may be set up and is staffed by your own volunteers. Charity volunteers can be used to monitor the holes in exchange for a donations to their organization. The amount of money donated to charities can easily reach $3,500-$4,500 per weekend challenge.

Golf Tournament Planning "Tip of the Day"
GOLF TOURNAMENT PLANNING"TIP OF THE DAY"
Two Peripheral Events That Can
Add Significant Profits To Your Tournament
Dear Friend in Golf,
Welcome to the Golf Tournament Profits daily blog. If you are an avid golf tournament planner promoting corporate events, school fundraising, charity golf, corporate golf, seeking golf prizes or just into event management I'm sure will find the information valuable.
Let's get started ...
In February, I got a frantic call from one of our subscribers, basically telling me that he needed additional revenue streams for his golf event in Southern California and ways to set the event apart from the other six community golf events in order to attract larger tournament sponsorship dollars during these difficult economic times.
Jim stated the competition for sponsorship revenue and players was escalating. As we discussed his situation, Jim could not clearly and concisely differentiate his golf event from his competitions to me and admitted his annual event was beginning to stagnate.
I told him he should not panic; I'd take the time to review his situation and try to come up with a significant promotion idea. I could just sense the frustration on the other end of the phone...I knew Jim thought I was just being polite but he went along with it anyway.
Well, here it is - May 2009...and many of our subscribers are getting into high gear as the tournament planning season is a upon us. During the past month, I've spent time on the phone with many of our readers and I must say there are community golf events out there putting up some fantastic bottom line number.
But the one common denominator I'm uncovering is many of the event coordinators are searching for ways to add to the bottom line just like Jim in Southern California by increasing the number of foursomes they can recruit. That is good thought, but I'm finding a trend that most golf tournament directors are missing.
As I suggested to Jim, tournament promoters fail to recognize additional revenue can be created by having others (non-golfers) in the community participate in their golf event.
Are you with me?
One of the easiest ways you can add a BUNDLE to your bottom line is plan and promote pre-tournament peripheral events. Here are a couple of contests you can add to your events line up in time to rev up your 2009 event.
These two event add-ons keep the fun rolling from start to finish. They also allow EVERYONE in the community to participate and offer additional sponsorship revenue opportunities. These event add-ons also work great with a joint venture partner like a radio station to assist the promotion.
First, consider a Putting Event.
Get everyone in community participating with an exciting putting challenge. You'll need to offer a qualifying contest. There are a number of ways, but I like to promote 5 putts for $20 from 50 feet. Sink a putt and the participant goes to the next round. The contest continues until one amateur remains standing and they'll get a chance to win $2,500 by taking one putt from no shorter than 50 feet.
This putting challenge allows juniors, ladies and seniors and other players who don't participate in your tournament to come out and enjoy the fun. Get 100 players, plus a sponsor and you can easily net $2,000 additional profit plus additional free media coverage.
Second, promote a Shootout Event.
Most tournaments use this as a way to get everybody back together to wrap up the tournament, but I've seen this type of event promoted and operated as a separate attraction the week of your main golf event. It is a great way to get additional players involved who for one reason or another can't play in your actual event.
A Shootout Event leaves two amateurs are left standing after a qualifying rounds for a chance to win $100,000 cash by taking one shot each from 165 yards. For more details on how to plan and promote these type of events email me at mamucci@golftp1.com
GolfTournamentProfits.com has been able to secure an Affinity Volume Discount Pricing Program for our readers who want to promote Putting Challenges, HIO contests and Shootout Events.
The program provides a simple, convenient, and affordable way to offer these peripheral events. You can receive a volume discount of approximately 20% off standard market rates.
For more details regarding the discounts email me at mamucci@golftp1.com
In closing ...please - I encourage you, I challenge you - apply this strategy to your golf event. Don't just read it, do it. It's the one thing that continues to grow our tournament planning relationships even today. IF - and that's completely up to you - IF you'll do what I share in today's lesson, you WILL generate more income for your event and build long lasting relationships.
You need products and proven strategies to make your golf event the best it can be, and I'm going to continue bringing valuable insights making certain your golf tournament gets to the next level.
